Habitat Description
Xeric and open coastal habitats on sandy soil. Sandplain grasslands, dunes and bluffs, coastal heathlands or other maritime shrublands and occasionally open pitch pine/scrub oak barrens are all common.
Threats to Survival
Fire suppression and habitat loss are the key factors in the decline in population. Pesticides, aerial insecticide spraying, non-target herbiciding, off-road vehicles and light pollution are all factors.
Actions Recommended to Ensure Survival
Controlled fire management to maintain open habitats is the most likely action to help the Coastal Heathland Cutworm.
