Species Name: Enallagma carunculatum
Species Distribution in Massachusetts
Federal Rank: None
Massachusetts State Rank: Special Concern
A variety of wetlands, but seem to be most numerous on large lakes. Have also been found on sluggish rivers and apparently are fairly tolerant of brackish and saline conditions.
Threats to Survival
Water quality degradation, disruption of natural flooding regimes, extensive recreational use of rivers and contamination from herbicides, insecticides and highway run-off.
Actions Recommended to Ensure Survival
Maintain water quality, protect wetlands and adjoining upland buffers, controlling road run-off, limiting the application of herbicides and insecticides, and maintaining sufficient water levels.
