Species Name: Crocanthemum dumosum
Species Distribution in Massachusetts
Federal Rank: None
Massachusetts State Rank: Special Concern
All occurrences in Massachusetts have been associated with coastal plains. Typically found in the open sand soils of coastal sandplains and heathlands, although it can be found along the mowed edges of golf courses along the coast.
Threats to Survival
Thrives in early succession habitats and areas of mild disturbance, and due to development and a weakened fire regimen, this habitat is difficult to maintain.
Actions Recommended to Ensure Survival
Research has shown that reproductive success has increased after periods of disturbance, with fire, mowing and soil scarification all showing an encouragement in regeneration and enhanced adult growth.
